An infill needs an appropriate support and a clear use brief. Upholstery alone does not create a load-bearing platform; any new structure must be assessed and agreed separately.
Can the replacement keep the original access gap?
Yes, retaining the passage can be part of the brief. Show both operating positions and flag the clearance you need before the pattern and cushion thickness are approved.
