From swatch to seating.
Colour is only the beginning. Compare the material in the light of your space, then consider the cushion profile and the finish at its edges.
- Material. Confirm the precise collection and feel using physical samples.
- Construction. Agree the pattern, cushion depth and fastening details.
- Finish. Bring piping, seams and border stitching into one direction.
Keep a record of what was selected.
Save the brand, range and colour reference for each part of your cushions. The main cover, piping, backing and inserts may have different care requirements. A general “outdoor fabric” description is not enough to identify the correct cleaning method.
Use the manufacturer’s instructions.
Sunbrella publishes different care guidance for its fabric applications, and Agora provides its own cleaning instructions. Read the advice for the exact product before choosing a cleaner. Do not apply an instruction for a woven cover automatically to foam, trims, zips or another material.
Plan cleaning around the whole cushion.
A removable cover does not automatically mean the complete cushion can be put through a washing machine. Confirm the agreed construction and product care guidance first. Sunbrella’s upholstery guidance advises air drying; follow the instructions for your selected range rather than applying heat as a shortcut.
Make storage part of the design brief.
Tell Josh how the cushions will be handled between uses and where they will spend the winter. Large pieces that are awkward to lift or store can be inconvenient even when the seating looks beautiful. Consider removable sections and your storage space while the new set is being planned.
Ask before the care label is lost.
If the fabric cannot be identified, send clear photographs and any order records before trying an aggressive cleaning treatment. When commissioning replacements, ask for the fabric references and relevant care information at handover so the next season begins with a clear plan.

We specialise in collecting cushions across the UK and EU. Packing, transport, installation and return are planned around your commission.
Same-day courier refers to collection, not manufacture. Collection availability, travel, costs and fitting responsibilities are confirmed for your project.
